10 Expert Tips For Growing & Maintaining A Moustache

Moustache TLC
Whether you’re growing one for Movember or simply because they’re on trend at the moment (the moustache is the new beard, don’t you know?) a ‘tache takes time to train and needs some TLC if it’s to look its best.

And who better to give some advice on moustache maintenance than ten guys who either have one or look after ‘taches for a living (and in some cases both)?
1. Get Your Timing Right
“The easiest way to trim your moustache in the initial stages is with clippers or a beard trimmer, but after three to four weeks graduate from these to a quality pair of facial hair scissors to trim around the mouth.
This is also the time to start using a moustache comb, along with a little wax. These will help shape your moustache but will also even it out, helping fill any gaps and prevent it from looking fluffy.”
Michael Beardsley, stylist at Pall Mall Barbers in London and owner of a beautifully maintained moustache.
2. Get Scrubbing
“I always recommend using a good face scrub to remove any unwanted food or dead skin cells building up in your moustache, particularly in the early stages.”
Bearded Liverpool barber, Peter ‘Cut Throat Pete’ Cranfield.
3. Shampoo And Condition
“Facial hair can be very coarse, which can make your skin feel dry and itchy – so try using a little two-in-one shampoo and hair conditioner to keep your moustache clean and conditioned.”
Kate Wingrove, Director at Trevor Sorbie salons in London and Brighton.
4. Cut When Dry
“Do not try to trim a wet moustache. Wet hair is heavier and will hang longer. When it dries and retracts you may find you’ve trimmed too much.”
Chris Martin, Author of The Gentleman’s Guide to Beard and Moustache Management.
5. Give It Some Wax
“I try and keep my ‘Mo’ as natural as possible but understand that some maintenance is needed from time to time. For special occasions I might give my ‘tache a little treat and get out the moustache wax to give it some definition.
My personal favourite is the Captain Fawcett Sandalwood Moustache Wax – it smells very manly and a little goes a long way. Warm between your fingers thoroughly before applying.”
Ex Royal Marine commando, salt ‘n’ pepper ‘tache owner and founder of British grooming brand The Bluebeards Revenge, David Hildrew.
6. Get Combing
“A moustache comb is an excellent investment if you’re growing a Mo. Not only can you use it to evenly distribute moustache wax and help part your moustache in the middle, it’s also a useful aid when trimming.
Use the comb to lift your ‘tache hair – it’ll make cutting it with scissors much easier – and angle the comb in the same direction as your lips.”
Brendon Murdock, Founder of uber-cool barbers Murdock London.
7. Don’t Be Scared Of Stubble
“If you’re worried about how a standalone moustache might look, try growing the moustache longer, shape it with a beard trimmer, and shave the rest of your beard down to a number two or three so your ‘tache is surrounded by stubble.”
Chris Camplin, moustachioed model (below).
8. Match Your Mo To Your Face Shape
“It’s crucial to take into account your face shape when choosing a moustache style. Not everyone can pull off the ‘Tom Selleck’ or a pencil moustache, so make sure to strike a balance between your face shape and the style you choose.
If you’ve a square face opt for a heavy, longer moustache and if you’ve an oval one go for a medium width style with a slightly triangular shape.”
Asgar Saboo, creative director at Daniel Galvin.
9. Know How To Twirl
“To achieve up-turning points on your moustache, take a smidgen of moustache wax, rub between your thumb and index finger and twirl the end with a technique much the same as snapping your fingers.”
Allan Peterkin, author of One Thousand Beards: A Cultural History of Facial Hair.
10. Moisturise!
“The skin underneath a moustache can become exceptionally dry as the hair draws moisture up from the skin, allowing it to evaporate. To avoid ‘tache dandruff’, moisturise the skin under your moustache daily using your fingertips.
Make sure you rinse thoroughly after washing too, as face wash, shampoo or shower gel residues can irritate skin and exacerbate dryness.”
Lee Kynaston (yes, this final one’s from me).

5 Ways Women Want You To Dress

What Women Want
Last week the nation woke to the breaking news that, according to a survey conducted by online retailer Littlewoods, 67 per cent of women admitted to controlling their partner’s style. In an age where KimYe are considered a golden couple, it hardly comes as a surprise.
Their sometimes matching Givenchy outfits and dedication to dressing in a ‘full look’, even if they’re just nipping out to Whole Foods, is admirable. And while David and Victoria Beckham may have ditched their ‘his and hers’ Dolce & Gabbana outfits, they still certainly enjoy being hailed as one of the world’s most style-conscious couples.
Celebrity gossip aside, the reality is men have been getting style advice in all shapes and sizes for decades. At the end of the day, we all want to look our best and, ultimately, impress those that matter.
While we’re not suggesting you should allow the women in your life to dictate your style, we thought this would be a good opportunity to ask a few with insider knowledge what they personally looked for. With that in mind, we spoke to five female professionals who work in menswear to get their thoughts on how men should be dressing in 2015.
From the Editor of Mr Porter to an ASOS Personal Stylist, via the Director of one of London’s most forward-thinking menswear labels, we give you their top men’s style tips…
1. Anything Worn With Confidence Is Attractive
“Nothing is less attractive in my opinion than the clothes wearing the man. Maketh the man, always!
Dressing should be just one part of their character. I’m a huge fan of that check shirt grunge look, but possibly because I dress like that myself, which means, oh, I’m a massive narcissist.”
Cozette McCreery, Designer and Director at fashion brand SIBLING
2. Trying Hard With Trends Isn’t Appealing
“I kind of hate the pressure that people feel from the word ‘trend’. I think if you are naturally observant, then buying into a trend is something that just naturally happens.
What I like about menswear is that having your own identity is valued more than changing your wardrobe every six months.”
Victoria Higgs, Stylist
3. Never Underestimate The Classics
“A white crew neck t-shirt, a good quality grey cashmere sweater, a simple navy wool overcoat – women love it when men keep clothes simple.
Colour and depth should come from the man wearing them.”
Jodie Harrison, Editor at Mr Porter
4. Wear Colour, But Carefully
“A few splashes here and there can be good and will easily update clothes you already own. Try to accessorise with colour though, rather than incorporate it into a whole look.
The old rule of paying attention to your skin tone is still valid, too. Generally the darker you are, the brighter the colour you can accessorise with.”
Gamze Gul, Personal Stylist at ASOS
5. Keep Spending On Good Jeans
“Attention to detail is a big sartorial turn on for me, bad jeans are the opposite of this.
A guy who puts the leg work into finding the best pair for him suggests pride in appearance and willingness to spend time investigating fit, cut and silhouette.”

Key Men’s Hairstyles For 2015

Your New Cut For 2015
From burgeoning trends to essential gym kit, we’ve given you plenty of inspiration for switching up your personal style in 2015. But what about that all-important and ever-present accessory: your hair?
We caught up with resident hairstylist Dion Padan, who shed some light on finding your new hairstyle for the new year.
1. Make Waves
A lot of my clients come to me asking how best to achieve more movement in their hair. There are several ways to get a wavier look, though a large part of a wavy style’s success is dependent on how straight your hair is to begin with.
Start by applying a sea salt spray or texturising lotion to towel dry hair. Next, you could try blow drying with a hair diffuser, which will help to form waves as part of the drying process. A diffuser is a hair dryer attachment that – unsurprisingly – diffuses the air the dryer emits, allowing it to spread softly through the hair rather than blasting it full-on.
You should aim to get the diffuser as close to the root area as possible and slowly rotate the dryer to create the movement. You’ll also want to select a low speed setting to avoid creating a big fluffy head of hair. If you don’t have a diffuser at your disposal, use a hair dryer, again set at a low speed, and simply scrunch your hair with your hand to create the desired movement.
If it’s a more structured wave you’re after, then a ghd Mini Styler works particularly well, even on short hair. What’s key here is that you’re painstakingly methodical in the way that you manipulate the hair using the styler, taking care not to twist too tight or your hair will appear curly rather than wavy. Starting at the root area, twist the styler down the hair shaft to achieve the wave.
If using an electrical styler on a regular basis seems like more hassle than it’s worth, then there’s also the option of getting your hair permed. Yes, I did just say that. And no, I know you’re not trying out for the latest stage production of Fame. It sounds terrifying but having your hair permed on a large perm rod would not only create an exceptional wave, it’d also ensure your hair stays wavy until the perm grows out. Remember, the larger the rod the looser the wave. Speak to your stylist to see if it would be suitable for your hair.
Once you’ve laid the foundations, you can further accentuate your waves by using the right styling product; we recommend Fat Hed by Fudge, Easy Rider/Night Rider by Kevin Murphy or L’Oreal’s Deviation Paste. Try scrunching in a little at the root area to give your waves optimal support.

Redefine The Curl
Given the popularity of a short back and sides, going curly on top can create an eye-catching contrast that’s chock full of texture.
Much like sculpting waves, a great curl is best achieve using a ghd Mini Styler; clump together a portion of your hair and rotate the styler down through the shaft as tight as possible to maximise the curl.
Again, a perm is preferable (and not to be sneered at) for those who want a style that’s as low maintenance as possible. For a tighter curl, your stylist will need to apply a slightly different perming technique; talk to them to discuss exactly how tight you want your curl to be, and what’s most suitable for your hair type.
To style, apply some Fudge Liquid Skrewd or Bumble & Bumble Holding Foam to the hair before blow drying, and then use a product like Bumble & Bumble Curl Conscious Defining Cream, Kevin Murphy Easy Rider or Fudge Ends to achieve your desired finish.

2. Go Longer
Long hair is set to have a moment in 2015. Granted, this type of cut isn’t for everyone but – on the right guy and styled the right way – it can look superb. One caveat: it’s best to avoid growing your hair long if it’s thick or unruly, as it will take a lot of time to blow dry and style each day.
Arguably the worst part of growing your hair long are those awkward, in-between stages where the length is not quite short, not quite long, and not quite fit for being seen by the general public. If you find yourself at one of these lousy, transitional periods, head straight to your stylist so that they can tidy it up and offer some expert advice on how best to get over the hump.
The key to making long hair work is taking good care of it and ensuring you get it cut regularly, so that you avoid excessive dryness and split ends. Care-wise, you’ll need a good quality shampoo and conditioner; a deep conditioning treatment or leave-in conditioner applied every week or so can also help keep your hair looking its absolute best.
When it comes to creating your style, there’s a particularly fine line between Fabio Lanzoni and Scandi-inspired cool. The trick is to aim for a look that’s relaxed and laid-back rather than overly preened.
With this in mind, many of my clients simply choose to wash their hair in the evening and let it dry naturally overnight for a lived in appearance. A similar finish can also be achieve with products like Kevin Murphy Undressed or Fudge Ends, which can be scrunched into blow dried hair.
Alternatively, you could try working some L’Oreal Mythic Oil or Moroccan Oil through towel dried hair and then let it dry naturally – this helps smooth the hair and gives it a super healthy shine.
However, if you’re growing your hair precisely to avoid all this precision styling, the ‘man bun’ and ‘top knot’ are both extremely on-trend styles at the moment, yet completely fuss-free.

3. The New Short: Lower Fades & Tramlines
Super tight sides have been the go-to for many guys for a while now. This year, why not experiment with slightly lower fades and maintain a little more length through the sides? This technique reduces the degree of scalp exposure, but still keeps the edges looking smart and sharp, as well as giving you a little more hair to play with when creating slick styles.
When creating a high shine style, preparation is key, so make sure to apply product to lightly towel dried hair. Rub some Fudge Fat Hed, Kevin Murphy Super Goo, or American Crew Pomade/Grooming Cream through the hair and blow dry while combing back or to the side to achieve the slick, precise finish we’re after.
For those keen to push the envelope, tramlines have been making a slow but sure comeback, aided by the 1990s style revival. Contrary to popular belief, tramlines don’t have to be tacky; there’s a whole spectrum of styles from subtle to statement-making. If you want to try it out, opt for a shaved-in parting, or if you’re up for going all out, ask your stylist to suggest a design they think would work for your specific hair type and head shape.

Bringing Hair Quirks Into Check
Your mum might have described them as ‘charming’ but trust us, keeping hair quirks in check comes highly recommended. If you struggle with strong hair growth patterns such as a double crown, nape whorl or widow’s peak, then it’s best to blunt cut these areas to keep the hair under control, as they can become particularly unruly as the hair grows out.
Here are a few tips for controlling or disguising these common hair growth patterns:
  • Double Crown: Try growing a good bit of length through the top so that you can slick it back easily; this will help keep the crown under control. Alternatively, you could cut the crown area short and keep the length at the front – perfect for styling into a pompadour.
  • Nape Whorl: Ask your stylist to taper the hairline to blend it in, and remember – the shorter the length the better, for optimal concealment.
  • Cowlick: If you’re lucky, you may be able to embrace your cowlick, growing and styling your hair in such a way that it doesn’t bother you. However, if your lick tends to split or veer off in an odd direction, then it’s best to have your stylist cut the section as close as possible to the scalp.
Final Word
Whether you’re looking to tweak a tried and trusted style or opt for a complete overhaul, the aforementioned cuts are set to be key for the coming year.

Men’s Style Advice For Job Interviews

Dress For Success

You know the drill: with the start of any new year comes the desire for a new and improved you, whether in your personal or professional life. If, like many others, you’ve started the year re-evaluating your current employment situation, you’ll want to ensure you look your best for when those all-important career opportunities crop up.
Whether you’re honing your look for a big interview or want to be sure your boss knows your worth at an annual review, here’s the low down on dressing for professional success in 2015.
Corporate Jobs
The Suit – Your No. 1 Asset
A well-cut suit has long been the choice for men making bold moves in the boardroom, and it’s easy to see why: a good suit works double duty, flattering your physique (broadening your shoulders and nipping you in at the waist) and – provided you get it right – communicating desirable traits, like attention to detail and confidence.
If you’re interviewing for a corporate job in a sector such as finance, you’ll want to make sure you keep your look sleek, polished and, most of all, industry-appropriate. With this in mind, a grey suit makes for a good first port of call.
Hardly surprising, but fit is key. Any old nine-to-fiver can pick up a grey suit on their lunch break, but ensuring your suit fits you perfectly is what will give you the competitive advantage. If you opt for a traditional two-button, single-breasted off-the-peg version, an easy way to see if you’ve secured the right fit is to check that the top button is aligned above your naval.

Another important area to focus on is the jacket sleeves: they should finish where the base of your thumb meets your wrist. If your suit in its current form leaves one or both of these boxes unticked, then you’ll want to hotfoot it to your tailor – these are easy adjustments that don’t cost the earth, but they will make a huge difference to your overall appearance.

It’s also worth considering colour, i.e. the exact shade of grey you go for. While light and pale grey suits have increased in popularity over recent years, mid-grey and charcoal designs are infinitely more timeless and versatile, keeping you occasion-appropriate and adapting to multiple occasions outside of the office.
For a fool-proof outfit, team your suit with a sharp, white button-down shirt and grey tie that’s a few shades lighter/darker for a sleek, tonal appearance. Those wanting to go the extra mile, consider placing a straight fold, simple hand rolled white pocket square into your breast pocket, if you feel it’s appropriate.
Grey Suit Lookbook
Whether you opt for a mid-grey or charcoal design, a grey suit is undeniably classic and can be dressed up in a number of ways, as proven by Suitsupply below:

Recommended Grey Suits
If you’re looking for a great off-the-peg suit that is cut well, designed to last and will make the right impression, here are a few key tailoring brands to consider: Reiss, Suitsupply, Charles Tyrwhitt, Richard James, Hardy Amies, Gieves and Hawkes, J.Crew, Paul Smith, Lanvin, Kilgour and Hackett.

The Navy Alternative
Another stylish and contemporary option when dressing for success in 2015 is the navy suit. You only had to tune in to a few minutes of the latest UK series of The Apprentice to see just how integral the navy suit has become when it comes to boardroom attire, and rightfully so.
Avid readers will know we’ve long supported the stylish deep blue hue for tailoring, so there’s no reason why more corporate types can’t swap their traditional grey and black suits for navy styles; both in day-to-day office dressing and interviews alike.
For a modern take on navy, go for a skinny, single-breasted version with notch lapels in a lightweight fabric such as cotton. This will look sharp teamed with a white chambray shirt, a skinny tie and a pair of rich brown brogues.
If, on the other hand, you’d prefer to take a more traditional route, then consider a double-breasted design with peak lapels in a textured fabric such as wool. A double-breasted jacket creates a wide and powerful silhouette that oozes confidence – perfect for closing that big business deal.
As we’ll be heading into the transitional months soon, you might also want to consider investing in a suit crafted from a wool and cotton blend, to avoid overheating. Try teaming this with a textured tie, double cuff shirt, silver cuff links and a pair of double-monk strap shoes in brown.
Navy Suit Lookbook

From deep and rich shades to more subtle matte styles, navy suits are much more varied than you may initially think. Tie colours that work particularly well with this style include yellows/oranges, reds, grey, and tonal shades of blue:

No matter if it’s grey or navy that gets your vote, either of these suits will ensure your potential employer knows you’re confident about your personal style, as well as your ability to ace the role you’re interviewing for.
We can’t guarantee you’ll land the job, but we can guarantee you’d have mastered sharp, sartorial style.
Creative Jobs
The Power Of Separates
Not all workplaces require suits to be worn, particularly in more creative industries such as architecture, digital marketing and design. Or even if they do, you might have more room to be creative with colours, prints and mix-and-matching. For these kinds of roles, you should take a slightly different approach to your interview attire, in order to avoid coming across stiff, stuffy and stuck for ideas.
Media, advertising and fashion professionals could opt for colour-blocked separates. These pieces needn’t be bright and garish; think tapered mustard trousers with a sky blue blazer and gingham shirt. Or a well-cut polo with an on-trend checked blazer and slim-fit cream trousers:

Re-Imagining The Suit
If you do decide to wear a suit to an interview for a more creative role, try thinking outside the box. For instance, you could still opt for a more conservative navy suit, but why not inject some life and personality into it via a printed shirt? Geometric, camo and subdued floral prints are all excellent options available to you.
Another approach would be to lose the tie – a popular trend in recent times and an easy way to show you’re committed to your work without coming across too square. This look is particularly worth considering if you’re applying for a creative job in a corporate industry.

The Statement Suit
Finally, if you’re feeling especially confident about nailing that annual appraisal or want to show you’re prepared to boldly go where other interview candidates wouldn’t, why not make an entrance in a statement suit?
From summer pastels to rich autumnal shades, a suit in an unconventional colour can’t fail to make a lasting impression. A word of warning, however: always research your new environment/work place beforehand and only make this choice if you’re sure it’s an office that won’t be shocked by head-turning tailoring.
If your boss is more conservative than creative, mix and match a statement blazer with smart trousers and a crisp shirt to tone the look down while demonstrating both confidence and flair.

Finishing Touches
Last but not least, don’t skimp on those all-important finishing touches.
A tie clip is a relatively inexpensive addition that will subtly set you apart, and be sure to strap on a classic watch if you have one.

Aside from your outfit, you’ll want to ensure your grooming is up to the job, which means a clean and close shave and neat hair (think classic short back and sides). Just don’t overdo it with the gel or wax. As much as high shine styles have been big news on the runways lately, it won’t translate well in a job interview. For more inspiration, read our full breakdown of the key hairstyles for 2015.

If you’re currently repping the beard trend, which is still for the most part going strong, ensure you trim and condition your facial hair before your interview in order to give off the right impression – you should be looking to demonstrate ambition to make it as company president, not office primate.

Final WordYet the most crucial aspect of your look when it comes to an interview or annual review, whether you’re in a corporate or creative industry, is that you exude confidence through both your style and performance. Get this right and the rest comes easily.
You’ve heard from us, now it’s over to you. If you’re looking to take a step forward in your career this year, how are you planning to refresh your wardrobe? Can you think of any points we’ve left out?

10 style imperatives men are getting wrong

India Kishmish - Style is just about being yourself and experimenting with trends – how many designers and celebrities have fed you with this twaddle in modest interviews? However when it comes to style, they know as well as us honest folks know that there are some hard-and-fast rules to the art of dressing. Looking good isn’t just accidental, it’s a process. We give you 10 style imperatives that will help you master the craft

1. Loose suit: You bought a handsome and rather expensive suit and when you tried it on, you just looked a bit… eh in it. That’s because even the best suit – top brands included – requires to be fitted to your exact measurements. Our tip: While trying on a suit, keep going down a size in the jacket until it gets uncomfortable. Then go one size up and buy that. Emgrace your tailor – even when you get your perfect size you will need to decrease your pants length and slim down the suit according to your shoulders and waist size.

2. Matching socks: It isn’t black socks for black shoes and brown socks for brown, your socks  should match your suit or pants. So if you are wearing a grey suit with black shoes, go for grey socks in a shade that’s slightly darker.

3. Tie length: The tip of your tie should never hang below the waistline of your pants, anything above or below that is the wrong length. Go for a tie in a tougher silk so the knot is big and handsome. It should measure about three inches at its widest part.

4. Obese wallet: Clean out your wallet regularly or buy yourself a new slim leather beauty which will only hold a limited amount of cards and ATM slips – and do you really to carry them all around all the time? A fat bulging wallet is an eyesore, it's time you put it on a diet.

5. Wrong belt: The width of your belt should be between an inch and an inch and a half, and the buckle should be subtle. Smell the belt – if it smells buttery, chances are it’ll age better.

6. Tux: The fabric of your tie should match the lapels of your suit and should always, we repeat, always be black.

7. Pants length: Your office pants are not your jeans, they shouldn’t be bundling up at the ankles. They should be falling straight till 1/4th of your shoe is covered sans crease.

8. Undershirts: You can skip these all together, but if your chest looks like a bear's and you tend to perspire a lot, opt for a crewneck which will blend in best with your outfit. A v-neck will only stand out.

9. Wrong fit jeans:Most mens get their jeans wrong. High-waisted white-washed jeans are dorky and the low rise baggy variety which show-off your boxers are better suited to your nephew. Buy yourself a medium-rise pair of denims which sit on your hips, follow your legs (instead of saddle bagging out from your waist) and form-fit to you as you break them in.
10. Adult sneakers: Sure sneaker,s are trendy but only if you are wearing the grown-up versions. Go for a classy pair somewhere in between the geeky Seinfeld variety and the snazzy Jay-Z look-alikes.

What Men Wants in Women

10 Things a man wants in a woman

Are you a single woman who has kissed umpteen toads but not yet landed the Prince? Or are you just holding on to something that was never meant to be? If you want to know what makes a man fall for a woman and willing to walk her down the aisle, read on...

1. A woman with her own life: Ladies, please note that he doesn't want someone clingy. If you are one person who has her own set of friends and can hang out by yourself, you are closer to hitting the jackpot.

2. No first move: OK, so is it ladies first or do men get be gentlemen and ask the lady out? The guy likes a woman who never makes the first move. He wants to decide how he's going to woo you serenade you - so be a lady and let him!

3. Love's in the air: Does your heart beat faster when you see him? Does his voice make you want to see him? While some may experience these, others may feel a sense of comfort and security when with him. This makes for a good foundation to take the relation ship.

4. Show you care: Someone said don't sweat the small stuff. But in a new relationship you definitely need to! Doing little things to show to him that you care will make his heart grow fonder.

5. Sexy yes, slutty no: Don't indulge in PDA right off the bat - you are likely to scare him off! Men like to take it slow and prefer being nonsexual but flirty in the initial stages of the relationship.

6. Wait for sex: Don't jump into bed on your first date. Sex can effectively ruin what could otherwise be a beautiful relationship. Both of you may end up having very little in common other than sex. So wait a while before you seal the deal.

7. No-nonsense: A man wants a woman he can respect. If he knows he can't get away with anything, he's likely not to go down that path. Also, don't date a guy who is seeing other women, married or abusive - they are just not worth it.

10. Good attracts good: If he is well-mannered and gentlemanly, then you have scored a 100! As dating experts say, "Good manners are a sign of what kind of man he is." Ensure that you have similar values and he's dependable and truthful.

How to Get Six Pack Abs Like Amir Khan Bollywood Actors

The Six Pack Workout: Get Body like Bollywood Actors

Exercise your core muscles. Once the fat on top of your abs is gone, you'll need washboard abs to be underneath. In the comfort of your home, you can exercise your core muscles -- it helps posture, too!

  • The plank: You can't just focus on what's on top -- it's what's behind your abs too -- your back! And doing the plank works both. With your forearms on the floor and your toes into the ground, lift up your core and thighs off the floor. Make sure your elbows are in line with your shoulders. To do it right, keep your butt and abs flexed.
  • The reverse crunch: Upper abs are easy; it's the lower ones that are hard. This exercise is much like a crunch, but with your feet in the air. To start, put your arms at your side, keeping your palms down. Place your knees over your hips, using your abs to place your body. Instead of moving your head toward your knees, move your knees toward your head. Hold your knees briefly as close to head as possible and then lower them back towards the mat.
  • The Bicycle: This exercise targets your back and sides, in addition to your upper and lower abs. Lie on a soft surface like a yoga mat and make a pedaling motion in the air. Alternate raising shoulders toward the opposite knee. Make sure to work both sides evenly. 2 sets of 12 reps is a good place to start.
Start weight training. If you're going for a six pack, you'll need strong pecs, shoulders, and back too. Your entire body needs to be on track, not just your abs.
  • Wood Chop: Using a free weight or medicine ball, kneel down on one knee. Lift the weight up, with both hands, over the shoulder of your leading foot. Lower the weight to the other hip, hold, and bring back up. Always make sure your entire body is facing forward. Aim to use a weight that fatigues the muscle in 12 reps.
  • Trunk Rotations: Working with a dumbbell or medicine ball, get into a sitting position, knees bent and feet flat on the floor. Lean back slightly to engage your abs. Bending at the elbows, hold the weight close to your core and twist from side to side. Pause at the end of each rotation.
  • Dumbbell fly: Grab some free weights and sit on a stability ball. Walk it forward until it's your head and upper back that are balancing on the ball. Push the dumbbells up and out, directly above your elbows. Swing out and back in, slowly. Keep your abs flexed at all times and your arms loose, not locked.
Blast fat with cardio. The absolute quickest way to get rid of fat is cardio. While it's important to do cardio and it's important to work with weights, it's most important to do both in tandem. You need to burn and blast away the fat to see the results you want.
  • This doesn't necessarily mean running. Swimming, boxing, cycling, and tennis are also great alternatives (amongst many) if you don't feel like hitting the concrete.
  • Consider high intensity interval training. Most studies have shown that the benefits of cardio are amplified when done in intervals. Work out as hard as you can for 30 seconds, relax for a minute, and repeat 9 more times. And you'll get your workout in super quick.
Keep it varied. You don't want your body to get used to your workouts. Once something becomes easy, step it up a notch. Constantly challenging yourself is the only way you'll see results you've never seen before. Each time you exercise, make sure to target different muscle groups. Do somewhere between four and eight moves and don't repeat the same moves the next day. Keep your muscles guessing by constantly changing up your routine. But, as always, check with your doctor if you're 45 or older.

Enjoy your 6 pack Like any Bollywood actor :)

In Two Weeks

Summer is finally here and its time to head down the beach and show off that body you have been working hard on all through the winter. You have been exercising through the winter haven't you?

Well if not now’s the time to take action and stop putting it off with excuses such as “oh, I’ll start tomorrow” or “just one more biscuit, slice of cake, vodka etc wont hurt”

So to help you get a beach ready body that you can be proud of I’m going to give you my top five tips to give you the best results in the next two weeks.
Now I’m not saying it’s going to be easy but then nothing truly worth having is ever easy. So here are my top five tips...

1, Stop working your abs in the hope that if you do thousands of sit ups/ crunches you will be able to burn loads of fat and get that toned midsection that you desire. It just doesn’t work like that. The body burns fat from genetically determined places which you nor I have control of and doing sit ups/ crunches won’t burn anywhere near enough calories to elicit a fat burning effect.

2, Exercise, sorry if you thought this was going to be some magic tip to help you rid the fat without actually having to put any effort in. You don’t have to spend hours in the gym doing set after set for each body part six days per week followed by hours of endless cardio to see rapid results. What you do need is a 20-25 minute whole body workout done 3-4 times per week using compound exercises that use the largest muscle groups in the body. Using compound exercises will not only help build more muscle you will also speed up your metabolism which will cause you to burn more calories even while you read this!. Stay away from shaping exercises as they don’t burn anywhere near as many calories.

3, Follow your 20-25 minute workout with 15-20 minutes of interval cardio. Interval s can be done on any of the traditional cardio machines or out side. After a five minute warm up on your chosen exercise to get the blood pumping you then go as fast as you can for 30-60 seconds and then rest for the same amount of time. Repeat this for a total of 15-20 minutes for a great fat blasting workout. If you’re up for it try hill sprints or try skipping as fast as you can for a minute then slower to catch your breath then repeat. Interval training will help you to burn more calories post workout than slow steady cardio. Forget the fat burning zone; you want to burn as many calories as you can!

4, Nutrition. Fuel your body with real food. Try to eat as much fresh natural food as possible staying away from processed packaged food which is generally high in fat, salt and sugar. Try to reduce you consumption of caffeine which dehydrates the body and alcohol which is a useless nutrient that the body has to deal with before it can burn any of the calories that you’ve eaten from food. Basically if it wasn’t around when the cavemen where then don’t eat it. Technology may have moved on since then but the body still works on the same principles as it did thousands of years ago.

5, Be sure to drink at least 2 litres of fresh water per day. Did you know that the body is over two thirds water? Water is used by the body for transporting and carrying nutrients between cells, exchanging oxygen in the air we breathe with the carbon dioxide produced in or cells which must be excreted from the lungs. Water helps flush the body of toxins and waste products through urine, sweat and tears. Water helps to keep the skin healthy, helps to reduce wrinkles and helps reduce your chances of getting headaches. Need I say any more about water?

There you have it, my top five tips for getting a beach ready body in two weeks but will you act on them?

Fashion of Bollywood’s 11 best dressed actors you can follow

Smooth dressing and sharp styling is part of an actor’s credo. But who really makes the cut? Here’s our list of the slickest gents in Bollywood today:

Imran Khan
When he came to the GQ office last month to be a guest editor, sporting an artfully manicured beard, an English hunting cap and a Lanvin suit, he was a far-cry away from the modest Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na boy he was 6 years ago. Along with his talent his style has grown and matured into an irresistible combination of goody-two-shoesness and an urbane sophistication.

Ranbeer Kapoor
He’s got the girls, cars, money, unbridled ambition and puppy dog good looks that are stylist’s dream. From a three piece suit to a leather jacket to a towel, this Bollywood actress-magnet has the balls to carry anything off.
Saif Ali Khan
From the floppy haired ole ole chap to the suave tuxedo wearing agent. The prince of Patuadi is all grown up and so is his style. He’s slick, has great hair and looks smashing in a suit or a bandhgala.
a
Abhay deol
The only Punjabi-ness in this achingly cool actor is restricted to his last name. His personal style is quirky off-beat and laid back. One of the few men we know who can wear a fedora and pull it off too.
Amitabh Bachchan
A luminary who’s style is beyond labels, trends and time. After 70 years of being stylish he is in a league of his own.
Farhan Akhtar
Making it in Bollywood without a single silly dance move is classy, and classy is what Akhtar junior is all about. His style is deadly serious but not imposing and while he prefers being in jeans, he does like the occasional Prada.
Shahrukh Khan
People get addicted to movie stars like drugs and Shahrukh is pure cocaine. The effortlessly cool superstar puts everyone around him at ease with his charming banter and well-cut suits that are suave enough to notice but not loud enough to override his personality.
Arjun Kapoor
This star kid has had the transformation of the decade (Google ‘Arjun Kapoor fat’ if you don’t believe us) His effortless swagger seen in his debut film Ishaqzaade carries on to his personal style that’s trendy and effortless. A star in the making?
Hrithik Roshan
If you are that good looking it doesn’t really matter what you wear but this guy needs perfection in everything he does or wears. Even when his hair is unkempt, every hair is exactly as out of place as it should be.

Arjun Rampal
Even after shooting all day and drinking till dawn this man-God usually looks like he just stepped out of the sea onto some golden beach. He’s handsome, has great taste in clothes and managed to land himself a supermodel. That’s what life’s all about.
Prateik
His personal style is whacky, edgy and chilled out. He manages to pull off looking like a puppy dog while maintaining a dark streak. A woman probably can’t decide whether to mother him or take a ride on his bike, but either way, it’s irresistible.
